Welcome to Beyond 6 Seconds! (Podcast Trailer)
    Carolyn Kiel

Carolyn Kiel: First impressions can take only 6 seconds to make! But if you’re neurodivergent, those quick judgments about you can be misleading.

(Quotes from guest interview episodes of Beyond 6 Seconds — the guests’ names are linked to their episodes:)

Nadine Drummond: “Because of people’s ignorance around learning disabilities, people think it means you’re intellectually incapable.”
Ayanna Davis: “I’m not Rain Man. Every autistic person isn’t Rain Man.”
Alex Gilbert: “I thought I was talking to people who understood dyslexia and ADHD, but they did not.”
Seamus Evans: “And they freaked out and were like, “well, if you’ve got Tourette’s like, if this is going to be a problem … then we can just fire you and get someone else.”

Carolyn Kiel: I’m Carolyn Kiel, and I host the Beyond 6 Seconds podcast. I interview neurodivergent entrepreneurs, creatives and advocates, including those who are autistic, dyslexic, dyspraxic, have ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, and more. And, as an autistic person myself, I share my own story here as well. Together, we share our authentic neurodivergent lives – the triumphs, the struggles, and the change we’re driving in the world.

Kelly Coons: “So I was like, I’d like to write a young adult novel about autism, that the protagonists are autistic and the conclusion isn’t “man, autism sucks, so glad I don’t have it.”
Rosemary Richings: “I want to help people understand dyspraxia better and build a stronger sense of community, while still getting stories out there about a lot of talent in the neurodivergent and disabled space.”
Britney Wolf: “Get the real life of Tourette syndrome out there. Stop thinking we are nothing but a joke.”
Natalie Brooks: “Really, what a lot of dyslexic people are looking for is just a bit of understanding and a bit of kindness. And so the best way I can deliver that is by trying to educate people and explain to people what it is that we’re looking for and why we’re worth giving that time to.”

Carolyn Kiel: Let’s shatter misconceptions, break stigma and celebrate neurodiversity together. Listen at beyond6seconds.net or wherever you get your podcasts.
